Kitui Police Recover 22 Stolen Goats as Suspect Flees Scene in Tseikuru
A routine afternoon in Nzitu Village took an unexpected turn this week – before settling back to normal in no time. Police in Tseikuru Sub-County have managed to recover a whopping 22 goats that were swiped from a local herder, bringing a bit of needed relief to a case that could’ve easily gone the other way instead
The recovery, confirmed by the National Police Service on tuesday April 28 2026, followed up on what officers say was a fastpaced response after the theft was reported to them
Swift Police Response Forces Suspect to Flee
From what the police tell us, the operation moved very quickly indeed. Once the alarm went off, officers – understandably – made no time at all in getting on the trail and it seems like this swift action paid off big time.
“Once they got the report ,police officers jumped straight into action & pursued the suspects – & on spotting them, the suspects high-tailed it out of sight, abandoning the goats in their wake,” The NPS stated
The suspects didn’t hang around for long , If faced with the sound of coming officers, they took off running & left the animals behind in their rush to get away
All Animals Accounted For, Awaiting Return
The police confirmed that all 22 goats were recovered safe & sound. Right now the animals are being held until the formal handover to their rightful owner gets sorted out.
Its a tiny but important win – especially in rural areas where animals aren’t just property – they represent a living
The investigation is still ongoing – with the authorities trying to nail the main suspect in the theft
Police Urge Public to Stay Alert
As things are calming down in Nzitu , the National Police Service are still urging regular people to keep their wits about them
In short, they say they’re committed to protecting lives & property. And, they’d love it if the public – if they spot anything out of the ordinary – would get in touch with the local cops
Meru Incident Highlights Wider Concern
The Kitui thing was just a few days ago and now we’ve got the aftermath of a much bigger, more intense operation in Meru County. That’s where a bunch of security teams showed up in response to a pretty serious banditry incident in the Kubicera grazing area of Kangeta.
A police report – dated April 26 2026 – tells us that things went down around lunchtime when a local noticed some armed guys swanning into the grazing fields, snatching some livestock and making off with a motorbike.
“Things got pretty hairy in the Kubicera area around lunchtime the other day when word started coming in of this banditry raid. A bloke from Kangeta in Meru County phoned up and said armed bandits had turned up in the grazing fields – nicked a bunch of cattle and a motorbike, no less,” a police report says in its own words.
Pursuit Leads to Recovery of 72 Cattle
The security teams got on the case pretty fast and tracked the thieves to the Muliti area. After a bit of a chase, they managed to round up 72 head of cattle.
The good news is that all those animals were matched up with their owner and sent back home, which is a nice result – but it also puts into sharp focus the problem of livestock theft in this country.
