Kenyatta University Hiring Now: Academic and Administrative Jobs Open Until May 8

Kenyatta University has come out with a bunch of new job openings – they’re after professionals in all sorts of fields, whether it’s academia, tech or administration . They made the announcement on Tuesday, April 28 – a move that could be seen as part of a broader plan to beef up their workforce in a number of key areas.

From lawyers to profs teaching medicine – they’re casting a pretty wide net – inviting anyone who’s got the qualifications and is ready to step into a rapidly changing academic world.

Top Positions Up for Grabs

The big job advertised is that of Chief Legal Officer (Grade 15) in the Legal Department – and this is a top post, no question about it. The expectations are pretty high for the role.

The Internal Audit Department is on the hunt for someone to fill the Information Systems Auditor (Grade 11) job. It’s a pretty clear sign that institutions are now placing a lot more importance on good old digital oversight.

Over in the Department of Health Management and Informatics, they’re advertising a bunch of teaching and technical roles – including Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, Tutorial Fellow, and Laboratory Technician (Grade C/D) – which says to us that they’re either expanding the department, or just making sure they’ve got the people to handle the workload.

Meanwhile, the Department of Family Medicine, Community Health and Epidemiology is after a Lecturer in Family Medicine – another sign that the university is actively on the hunt for talent.

Medical and Technical Roles Also Available

It’s not just the other departments which are hiring.

Over in the Department of Medical Physiology they’re looking for people to fill technical roles – including Senior Laboratory Technologist (Grades E/F and C/D) and Technician (Grade A/B).

In the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology they’re advertising a range of jobs – both academic and support roles – including a pretty key one, Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as Lecturer and Technician (Grade A/B) for Clinical Skills Lab and Teaching Lab Support.

It all looks like a pretty broad approach to building up their workforce – rather than just putting out feelers and hoping someone shows up.

How to Apply

If you get the nod from the university, successful candidates are going to get a pretty standard starting wage plus a house allowance.

When putting in your application, you’ve got to give them the full lowdown on your qualifications, work history, where you’re currently working and what you’re getting paid, plus your phone number and email address.

On top of that, you’ll need to send over copies of any relevant certificates and testimonials you’ve got lying around.

You’re also going to need to provide the names and addresses of three people who know you well enough to vouch for your abilities in your field of specialisation.

Applications – plus referee letters – need to go straight to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance) at Kenyatta University, care of P.O. Box 43844 – 00100, Nairobi.

The university is pretty clear: applications and letters from referees need to land on their desk no later than May 8, 2026.

They want to make it clear they are an equal opportunity employer – and that canvassing (i.e. trying to butter up the decision makers) will get you automatically tossed out of the running.

By the way, only the people they shortlist will be hearing back from.

IPOA Announces 32 Job Vacancies

Over on the other side of things, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is looking for 32 people to join their team.

They put up an advert on April 28 – and are now looking for interested and qualified Kenyans to come on board.

The jobs on offer at IPOA are: 1 x Senior Accountant, 3 x Call Centre Officer II, 6 x Complaints Management Officer II, 1 x Inspections Officer II, 2 x Monitoring Officer II, 9 x Investigations Officer II, 1 x Legal Officer II, 1 x Research Officer II, 1 x Clerical Officer II, 4 x Driver II, and 3 x Office Assistant II.

If you’re interested in any of these jobs, you’ll need to go through the IPOA website and apply online via the careers portal – at www.ipoa.go.ke/ipoa/careers. No snail mail applications will be accepted.

IPOA are making it clear that all applications need to be in by May 18, 2026 by 5pm.

Also worth noting: before you can get the job, you’ll need to meet Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, which likely means you’ll need a clearance certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

  • And, as if it wasn’t already clear, the authority is making it very clear that any canvassing will get you tossed out of the running.
