KNEC KPSEA Results Slip Declared Fake as Viral Post Claims Return of 8:4:4

The KNEC KPSEA results slip has become a hot topic online after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) stamped the results document circulating on social media as fake. This one’s claiming to have detailed marks for the 2025 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

The KNEC put out a public warning on their social media channels saying not to believe the rumour that the old 8:4:4 system is back.

“The KNEC has gone back to having 8:4:4 scores on the KPSEA result slip.8:4:4 is back,” reads a caption on the since-debunked post.

This results slip that’s been going around has detailed marks for English, Maths and loads of other subjects. It even has some performance descriptors, so people are starting to think that Kenya may have snuck back in with the old 8:4:4 system again.

But KNEC say that can’t be further from the truth.

Official KPSEA Learner Performance Report Differs Significantly

According to the council, the only thing you get on the real KPSEA result is a learner performance report, and it doesn’t have any numerical scores on it.

So what you get is just the subject names and a performance level – that’s either Exceeding Expectation or Below Expectation. That just goes to show you the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) system doesn’t really care about how many marks you got.

The result slip they released in January went out of its way to say how you did in each subject — but it doesn’t give any actual marks.

This is all happening at a time when people are really interested in how CBC is doing – kinda because Kenya just ditched the old 8:4:4 system.

No Return to 8:4:4 System

In the CBC system, students finish their grade 6 before moving up to Junior Secondary school. Then they go to Senior Secondary and finally off to university.

So unlike the old KCPE system, KPSEA doesn’t actually rank the students. It’s used to check their progress in the Competency-Based Curriculum.

KNEC’s made it clear that there’s been no going back to 8:4:4.

“Dont be fooled by the fake news,” KNEC told people in a post on Sunday morning.

How to Access Official KPSEA Results

KPSEA results are only accessible via the official digital channels or the school your kid attends – that’s where they have them.

One notable difference between this and the old KCPE system is that there isn’t a special SMS code to check your results – unlike in the 8:4:4 days.

KNEC has been pushing out a message to parents, teachers and candidates alike to stick to the official word from its website and social media channels – because people have been falling for fake documents and announcements online.

Rising Concern Over Education Misinformation

One viral post just caused a right old kerfuffle online & some people are going “wait a minute” about whether detailed subject grades have been snuck into the CBC system.

Now education folk are saying the CBC stuff is really about how well a kid can do things rather than getting a high mark – it’s all about what they can do, not how well they come out of exams.

As the misinformation machine cranks up online we still get told to double check anything important especially when it comes to national exams which affect so many learners
