Uhuru Kenyatta Breaks Silence on Planned Ichaweri Youth Visit

As interest grows in a planned visit by some youths to former President Uhuru Kenyatta‘s home in Ichaweri , the Office of the ex Head of State has finally weighed in on the matter with a clear statement.

The Office of the retired Head of State called a halt to the proposed visit on Feb 22nd, saying that he will not be hosting a bunch of young people who had apparently organised a trip to his private place in Ichaweri, Gatundu at present.

This move comes at a time when youth getting involved in politics is slowly but surely on the rise before the 2027 General Election.

Why the Ichaweri Visit Will Not Take Place

Yesterday the Office confirmed that they’d had reports about the planned visit.

While expressing their gratitude that the young Kenyans are so keen to get involved at last, the statement made it clear that the former President is not in a position right now to receive a group of visitors at his private home. It was communication secretary Kanze Dena Mararo who signed the statement.

The statement from the former President’s office was quite measured – showing appreciation for the enthusiasm of the young people but also making it clear that they are not going to go ahead as planned.

“ The former President really respects the energy, the ideas and the patriotism of young people in Kenya” the statement read. “He believes that its really important for people of all ages to talk to each other to build a better future for the country” he said.

The message struck a careful balance between saying no to the visit but also leaving the door open for the future.

Call for Structured and Peaceful Engagement

The news that the Ichaweri visit was off the cards did not mean that the Office had closed the book on the whole idea .

They still want to hear from the people who had organised the visit and would like them to make formal contact with the Office in advance so that they can make proper arrangements for a structured and peaceful meeting.

The Office is keen that these kinds of initiatives do not lead to any kind of trouble or disruption , especially in a climate where things can get highly charged.

The statement concluded by calling on everyone to put a bit of unity into their politics – “Kenya belongs to all of us” it said “let us try to choose to talk to each other rather than causing trouble and let us choose to work together rather than working apart”

Youth Political Momentum Ahead of 2027 Polls

The move comes as there is a growing sense of activity among young people who are keen to get in touch with senior politicians to discuss all the big issues such as the direction of the country and how the government is being run ahead of the 2027 elections.

Although the Office didn’t give a reason for the former President not being available to meet , one thing is clear : the issue had got tongues wagging on social media.

Ichaweri located in Gatundu is a place that holds a lot of symbolism – it is the home of the former President and so anything that happens there naturally gets a lot of attention.

By calling a halt to the planned visit and putting out a clear statement the Office appeared to be trying to send a message that they want to keep things civil and respectful and not let stuff get out of hand.
