Kuria’s Bold Comeback: A Fun Run or Calculated Power Move?
Former cabinet secretary Moses Kuria is about to be thrown back into the cutthroat world of elective politics, hopping back into the fray to take on the Gatundu South parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. The timing is interesting, nearly a decade after his last stint – and it’s just the beginnings of a much , much bigger game plan.
A Return to Familiar Ground
Moses Kuria hasn’t been shy about why he’s making his move now. To him, it’s not just another go – it’s a whole new chapter.
“I want to actually have fun now , I’m going for the Gatundu South seat where it all started for me,” he said with a grin.
There’s a little something of a feel good vibe around the idea that he’s going back to his roots, reconnecting with the people that helped launch his career into national politics. But scratch beneath the surface & there’s a clear game plan unfolding.
2027 as a Launchpad for 2032
Moses Kuria has now made it pretty clear that his parliamentary ambitions in 2027 are all part of a bigger masterplan. In fact, the next presidential election in 2032 is where his sights are firmly fixed.
“Right now I’ve joined the UDA party – and its because I am planning on running for president in 2032. The truth is , for me to actually have a sniff at the top job , UDA is the way to go – its got that national reach. Gatundu people are great , but they cant win me a presidential election on their own , can they” he said with a wry chuckle.
By joining up with the United Democratic Alliance he’s essentially positioning himself for a bigger stage – something he reckons is an absolute must if he’s going to have a serious tilt at the top job.
Mt. Kenya’s Political Direction in Focus
Looking ahead to 2027 its clear that Kuria thinks Mt. Kenyas political landscape is about to start falling into place.
‘I reckon by next April we’ll finally know what Mt. Kenya is up to. If Ruto gets dumped after one term he’d be a pretty powerful opposition leader – even more so than Raila I’d say. And in 2032 he’d come back strong, still having plenty of friends in the region,’ he told us.
His comments make it sound like we’re in for some fresh alliances and possibly a whole new order in the region.
Speculation Over Running Mate Options
Kuria also had some thoughts on who UDA might choose as their running mate. He threw a few big names into the mix.
‘Kindiki might just stick around – he’s still got a shot at getting the nod. Or maybe he won’t – only time will tell. Fasten your seatbelts, grab some popcorn… who knows. Then theres Oburu – he’s got a real shot at being Deputy President too, he’s on the make for power’.
Politicians like Kithure Kindiki, Oburu Oginga and Gladys Wanga keep getting mentioned in all this which is making things pretty interesting for those of us trying to figure out whats going on.
Dismissal of Joho’s Chances
When it came to Hassan Joho’s chances of landing a deputy role, Kuria had no hesitation in shutting the door on him.
“Hassan Joho knows exactly where he fits in the pecking order, Im not talking about some second guessing here. He’s a clever, reasonable fella. Joho’s got about as much chance of being a running mate as you do, zero. Slim and no chance at all” Kuria put his foot down.
Debate Over Mt. Kenya Leadership
On leadership dynamics within Mt. Kenya, Kuria offered some biting insights which are bound to be a talking point – and especially drew a sharp line between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and current Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
” The contrast between Uhuru and Gachagua is like chalk and cheese. One of the big difference between the two – and its a very telling one – is this, Uhuru never name checked us when we had issues with him, and that to me was a sign of class. Now today though, people are throwing names about, and the result is a very different story. The difference in the pedigree and experience and credentials is really starting to show – its all coming out now. Uhuru never went around telling everyone he was the kingpin. Anyone can declare themselves kingpin, but trust me, its not earned. Its a title you have to work towards” Kuria said
His comments have landed him straight at the centre of an ongoing debate about who really holds the cards in the region, and how loyalty is earned in politics.
