Caleb Amisi Intensifies Push to Impeach Ruto as Finance Bill 2026 Debate Deepens

As the Finance Bill 2026 continues to be a major source of contention in national conversations, MP Caleb Amisi from Saboti is meanwhile taking the gloves off – indeed getting in on another highly charged battle that could only just amplify the ire in the air – calling for the impeachment of President William Ruto.

Caleb Amisi – known for speaking his mind – has flat-out shot down claims that his attempts to impeach the President will only serve to take attention away from the Finance Bill. His stance is that both of these pretty heated issues deserve equal priority and can be tackled head-on at the same time.

Speaking on his official X account last Sunday – May 31, 2026 – Amisi went on to name-check his critics – though they remain unnamed – accusing them of purposefully trying to throw a wrench in the whole impeachment discussion by making it sound like it’s just a sideshow to the ongoing Finance Bill debate.

Amisi Rejects Claims Impeachment Is a Distraction

Amisi reckons people trying to spin the impeachment push as a distraction from the Finance Bill debate are way off-base.

“There’s a clear conspiracy going on amongst those opposed to progress to make out Impeachment as an opposition to the Finance Bill” he said.

“No, they can happen at the same time.”

Amisi held firm to the point that the process of taking down a sitting President via impeachment shouldn’t be viewed as a threat to democracy – but actually as a vital safeguard against those wielding too much power.

“Impeachment is actually a safeguard against people using their power in a way that’s just plain wrong – and it is a key part of the democratic process” he stated.

His latest comments show just how determined some opposition figures are to keep the pressure on the Kenya Kwanza government at a time when public scrutiny of their policies is running high.

‘You Asked for Democracy’

The Saboti MP even went further, insisting that people calling for accountability shouldn’t be branded as a threat to stability.

“You asked for democracy – well, you’ll get it – in spades, and in your face” he declared.

Amisi’s comments reflect an increasingly shrill tone that’s come to define recent exchanges on governance, taxation and public accountability.

MP Challenges Claims Ruto Has Parliament Locked Down

Amisi also shot down suggestions that any move to impeach Ruto would be a lost cause because of the President’s numbers in Parliament

“Another ridiculous claim : Mara Kasongo’s got the numbers and will win in parliament and walk out on top of it all . That’s absolute nonsense” he said

His comments are geared towards supporting the notion that maths in Parliament shouldn’t be the final word when it comes to holding leaders accountable

Kenyans Urged to Pressure Their Representatives

Amisi went straight to the people , telling voters to go get their elected reps and ask them to get behind the proposed impeachment process

“Have a word with your MP and tell them to do the needful” he told people

He said that right now MPs will soon have to make a clear choice – be with the Kenyan people or just shut up

Amisi also said that days of getting voters on side with just nice speeches at rallies are over , its time for some real substance to back up the bluster

“Getting people on side with speeches and rallies is becoming a non starter” he said

Social Media Campaign Fuels Impeachment Talk

The idea of impeaching Ruto started to take off after Amisi kicked off a social media campaign to gauge public support

Amisi had previously said we would start the process once a post got 24,000 likes – and the target was smashed that’s for sure

Amisi has said that all the online love means people are basically voting in favour of moving forward with impeachment

A Tough Political Road Ahead

Even though the online debate is getting a lot of traction , taking the impeachment push to a successful vote is still a really tough ask

President Ruto’s allies have a lot of clout in both the National Assembly and the Senate which is making it difficult for anyone to even think about removing him

But Amisi’s recent comments are still adding fuel to the fire thats been lit in the last few weeks , especially as the Finance Bill 2026 gets more and more attention ,all this is setting the stage for what could be one of the most watched political battles in the country in the coming months
